Today I was finally given permission to go home from Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, IL. The sun was shining outside and I could hardly wait to get outside of my hospital room and gown for that matter. The last time I had been outside the room was on Friday and everything was a whirlwind as I came in via ambulance stretcher after being transferred from another hospital. It was bittersweet as I so longed to go home yet was nervous about the possibility of contractions or complications reoccurring (especially if I was unaware of them).
I gave a bouquet of my flowers to the nurses (not that they had to work too hard with me--I'm sure I was their easiest patient) and got wheeled to the front door for pick up by Kris. We needed to get to the pharmacy to pick up this procardia medication (it's for blood pressure, but assists with the relaxation of the uterus to prevent contractions). We arrived at the pharmacy and had to wait >40 minutes as they couldn't seem to find my prescription that was called in. Poor Kris having to actually fill a script while I lay back on the car seat and inform him of what he had to ask for....I think it was slightly challenging for him! :) Eighty dollars later and one month's supply of meds--we were out of there. Now,to interject here---these health care costs have me thinking.....so I was in the hospital and had to call my health insurance company to make sure I was "pre-authorized" for my inpatient stay or I get penalized $500. Then, I leave the hospital and have medication co-pays and I'm sure we will be receiving hospital bills soon. Just because we both work and have insurance we have to do the "run around" to make sure everything is squared away! What if I didn't have insurance--wouldn't it almost be easier--not worrying about hospital bills, probably telling the doctor I didn't have money for drugs, therefore getting a free supply as a hospital write off? It seems to me (now call me crazy) that life is easier if you just don't have insurance or a good job. Am I wrong here? I would think that the last thing someone wants to worry about while in the hospital is their bill--but of course I worry about that!
Moving on, Kris bought groceries before leaving good ol' Rockford so the kitchen would be stocked as he has to travel the remainder of the week. As soon as I got home and being the lady of the house....inspected the place and had to rest. Walking short distances makes me winded and I feel so deconditioned already! But, I mustered up the strength to take a shower in my own shower-oh wow! and lay outside on some reclining chairs to get some deserved sun rays and feel the wind blow by..even for a little bit. Sometimes it's just the little things in life that impact you the most to make you feel so grateful.
I sit here and think I should be doing this or that and have to cut myself off knowing it can all wait. It is funny how quickly your life can change.
Tonight I get to enjoy supper with my husband; I'm kind of excited. He is off to travel for the rest of the week, so I will rest and follow up with my OB on my own. Hopefully by the end of the week, things will semi be back to normal.
I will upload some pictures as soon as I can. For now, I will keep you all guessing with my pregnancy shots :) Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers. We feel very blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives!

Who would I be if I didn't argue politics with you? If you didn't have insurance you wouldn't have been seen at an OB clinic in the first place, because they would've demanded payment up front. Which you wouldn't be able to afford if you couldn't afford insurance, of course. But I'm glad you have insurance, and that everything is going better for you. Just think of this whole experience as one more thing you can hang over their heads, i.e. "I had to sit around on bedrest for 3 months, just to bring you two into this world, so you will eat your broccoli!"
ReplyDeleteWelcome home. You are such a trooper. Glad you got to feel the sunshine and wind. How restricted are you for now? Will someone stay with you while Kris is gone? Wish you were here.
